How would you like to learn how to enlist ministry workers for service in a way that doesn’t offend and gets results every time? The results may not be what you might expect, but they will be what the Lord is aware of and are according to His plan. When a person is properly enlisted, both parties can experience God.

“But all things must be done properly and in an orderly manner.”

1 Corinthians 14:40

Benefits of Proper Enlistment

Teaches Others to...

• Pray and hear from God.

• Be empowered and motivated by the Holy Spirit.

• Seek the Lord for direction in all decisions.

Encourages Others to...

• Relax when they see you coming.

• Not feel obligated to you personally.

• Make a firm commitment about which they are confident.

Motivates Others to...

• Commit with a pure motive.

• Commit without guilt, shame, or any form of manipulation.

• Want to see you again and share what they experienced.

• Get involved in an area of service by being led by the Spirit.

Blesses You because...

• You never have to feel anxious, worried, or rejected.

• You can rejoice in their decision regardless of the outcome.

• You win their respect and set the stage for sincere service.

• You can lead with Godly Confidence.

“Godly Confidence is an emotion that empowers and energizes us. It is a strong, bold belief that drives out fear, doubt, anxiety, and worry. It leaves us with an unshakeable sense of assurance!” Dr. Charles Stanley

You may say, “That sounds good, Derrick, but how do I do it? I am not a pastor!” Maybe not, but you are a saint of God, and I am a minister who, according to Ephesians 4:11-12 has the responsibility to equip you for ministry. Before we look at the “how to,” let’s look at another passage of scripture that relates to what we are talking about.

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

Philippians 4:6-7

How to Properly Enlist for Ministry Service

Pray and Prepare Materials

• First and foremost, don’t be anxious about filling a position. Let God do it!

• Pray! Seek the Lord’s direction in selecting potential ministry workers.

• Contact the prospective worker and set up a short visit.

Meet with the Prospective Worker

• Give them a job description and tasks, and ask them to pray about it.

• Tell them you will get back to them in one week.

• Thank them for their time and consideration.

Re-visit the Prospective Worker

• After a week, revisit with them and ask, “Have you prayed about the opportunity we discussed?” “Do you sense the Lord leading you to be involved in this opportunity?”

• If they answer “no” and have had enough time to pray about it, thank them for their time and change the subject.

• If they answer “yes” and tell you that they don’t sense the Lord leading them to be involved at this time, thank them for prayerfully considering the offer and encourage them to pursue the area of service the Lord is leading them to.

• If they answer “yes” and confirm that He is leading them to serve, let them know when they can start and remind them of the start date and times.

• For those who are led to be involved, tell them you look forward to serving with them. After properly and prayerfully enlisting your team, email their names to the appropriate ministry leader as you discover their commitment.
